About the book:
In Italy in a Wineglass, Marc Millon offers a captivating exploration of Italian history — seen through the unique and revealing lens of its wines. Spanning thousands of years, the book traces the intricate relationship between Italy’s political, cultural, and economic evolution and the development of its wine traditions.
Organized chronologically, Millon takes readers on a journey from the wines of ancient Greece and Etruscans to the Romans, medieval monks, and Renaissance nobles, all the way to the dynamic world of modern Italian winemaking. Along the way, he highlights how wine has not only reflected the spirit of each era but also helped shape Italy’s national identity.
